At Forward Equine, we take care of the whole horse to maximize health, well-being and performance.

As part of that, we are delighted to have upper airway endoscopy as one of our services!

This diagnostic imaging tool allows us to look directly at the inside of your horse’s throat. Respiratory issues often involve different components of the throat and entrance to the lungs, such as the larynx, pharynx, guttural pouches or trachea. By inserting a flexible scope with a camera on the end through one nostril, we are able to closely examine each of these areas. Being able to directly visualize them allows us to reach a diagnosis quickly and painlessly. The average exam takes just 5-10 minutes, quickly getting your horse on the road to recovery!

Common indications for this procedure include:
● Coughing or increased effort in breathing
● Making a noise during exercise
● General poor performance
● Having less energy than normal during work
● Nasal discharge of any type
● Swelling of the throat latch area
● Issues with chewing, swallowing, or a head tilt

If you have concerns about your horse’s breathing or performance, this may be the key to finding out the underlying cause and resolving it – contact us today to set up your appointment!
